Though this may sound a bit random, I decided to ask myself three basic questions
Why is...
How to...
and lastly,
Fear of...(which was the hardest)
Then I sought fijnd the answers. So here we go!
Why is…a manhole cover round?
Wiki. gave a lot of explanations. For example, “a round manhole cover cannot fall through its circular opening” was one explanation. Another was “it is easier to dig a circular hole and thus the cover is also circular.” One obvious explanation was “human beings have a roughly circular cross-section.”
This site simply said that manhole covers are round so that they won’t fall in the manhole. Also, since they don’t vary in width or diameter, they are less likely to move and cause havoc. Lastly, they’re easier to move because they can be rolled.
“Did you wonder” stated the same thing as coolquiz.com. So why?
#1- The cover won’t fall in because “inner diameter of the manhole is slightly smaller, which ensures a tight, sealed fit, and guarantees that the lid doesn’t drop in.”
#2- Round covers are easier to make/manufacture, and lifting them requires much less manpower.
How to…make a “good” song?
This site is extremely informative, giving step by step answers when it comes to making a song. What I liked most was that it started with something that I always forget. START with the title and go from there making a list of words that “fit” the title.
This site broke how to make a “good” song down into five steps (which weren’t as easy as I would have liked, but they were still reasonable and practical).
According to “ehow” you can make a song by:
- Making sure all musical instruments (unless it’s a solo instrument piece) are in harmony with each other.
- Learn “music theory.”
- Make sure the song has “good” dynamics, meaning have emphasis in certain places. This can be done by creating solos, include background singers, and a list of other things.
- Combine different genre styles. For example, you could try pop and jazz together or country and rap together. Many people do this including Beyoncé and Shakira and even Whitney Houston and Enrique Iglesias.
- Lastly, make sure the song “flows.” There shouldn’t be any abrupt transitions, stops, or pauses.
This simply said that a “good” song is born “when it achieves its purpose as defined by the artist.”
Fear of drowning…
This site gave the name of this fear which is aquaphobia.
Here, advice, reasons and steps to treat this fear was given. For instance, they explained what “type” of person might have this fear, they supplied a two-minute test one could take to find out the severity of their fear, and most importantly, they explained that getting over this fear is mind over matter.
This site gave the name of this fear; the reason why people generally have aquaphobia, signs that one may have this phobia and ways to overcome it.
Yeah, this last one sounds a little strange, but I don't know how to swim yet, so...drowning is very likely (in my mind).
